At UTRS, giving back to the communities where we live and work has always been part of who we are. That is why UTRS Civil and Environmental Engineering is proud to support the AWSOM Animal Shelter, a local nonprofit that provides safe housing, veterinary care, rehabilitation, and loving forever homes for homeless, abused, neglected, and abandoned companion animals throughout Monroe County, PA. By giving vulnerable animals a second chance, AWSOM strengthens the entire community.
This year, UTRS Civil and Environmental Engineering (UTRS CEE) is proud to serve as an AWSOM Angel Contest Sponsor for the 18th-annual John Fiero Memorial Golf Tournament, taking place Monday, August 10, 2026, at Great Bear Country Club in East Stroudsburg. The tournament serves as an important fundraiser for the shelter, bringing together local businesses, supporters, and animal advocates for a day of golf, networking, and community impact. Golfers can look forward to a scramble-format shotgun start at noon, following registration at 11 AM, with a dinner reception to follow. Because AWSOM relies heavily on community support to counter ever-rising costs, events like this tournament ensure their doors stay open to animals in need. While the animals will be the real winners, there are numerous awards to be won by two-legged participants including the grand prize: a 2027 GMC Terrain.
UTRS CEE has deep roots in the communities it serves, and supporting a neighbor like AWSOM is very much in keeping with that history. Frankly, for the team at UTRS, supporting AWSOM is a natural fit. Our staff members have always been particularly pet-proud, with companion animals playing a huge role in our everyday lives and workplace culture (as proven by the plethora of pet photos at desks and the number of animals who meander uninvited through virtual meetings).
