Seattleites showcased substantial civic excitement this week as UTRS client Sound Transit officially opened the Crosslake Connection – the world’s first light rail system to cross a floating bridge.
This innovative rail project, connecting downtown Redmond and Bellevue to Seattle’s Chinatown-International District via Mercer Island, was decades in the planning, development, and execution. The 2 Line extension features revolutionary engineering allowing trains to travel up to 55 mph across more than a mile of the surface of Lake Washington.
UTRS was one of many firms providing cutting-edge engineering to this revolutionary transit platform. Specifically, we contributed:
- Corrosion Control Design and Implementation
- Environmental and Fresh Water Impact studies
- Cathodic Protection Testing, Verification, and Systems Integration
- Materials Selection, Retrofitting, and Power Upgrades
- Plinth Insulation
UTRS would like to give a special shout-out to Maurice DeLisle, our triple-NACE-certified Director, Corrosion Control, who has been supporting this client from the beginning of our involvement.
UTRS congratulates Sound Transit on accomplishing this engineering marvel!
