A UTRS Civil & Environmental Engineering (UTRS CEE) project has reached a major milestone: construction is underway on the Hayward Business Park expansion in Stroud Township, Pennsylvania.
The project will add a 200,000-square-foot industrial storage and warehouse facility to Hayward’s local operations on a 24-acre site along Route 447. The new space is planned in two 100,000-square-foot phases and will help Hayward expand and consolidate operations in the Pocono region.
Before construction could begin, the project had to address the challenges that come with developing a site of this size. UTRS CEE provided land development engineering and permit application services, working through grading, site access, stormwater management, drainage, utility service and municipal review requirements to move the project from concept toward construction.
Stormwater management was an important part of that work. A large new building and additional paved surfaces change the way rainfall moves across a property, increasing the amount of runoff that must be managed. The site design incorporates stormwater basins, carefully planned grading, and drainage features to collect and control that runoff.
The project also includes an improvement of a proposed pedestrian walkway along the property frontage of Route 447. Incorporating the walkway into the site will improve the potential for pedestrian connection along this growing business corridor.
There is a strong local connection behind the project as well. Hayward has been manufacturing and packaging health and beauty products in the East Stroudsburg area since the early 1990s. UTRS CEE carries forward more than a century of engineering experience in eastern Pennsylvania built through its predecessor, RKR Hess Associates. Bringing that local experience to a project supporting the continued growth of another longtime area business makes this effort especially meaningful.
With land development approvals and the permitting process successfully completed, Hayward Business Park is now moving from engineering design to site construction. The first 100,000-square-foot phase will begin the planned buildout, followed by a second 100,000-square-foot phase as the development progresses toward completion.
